Anthropomorphic

I was born and raised in the beautiful island of Sardinia, Italy, where I grew up surrounded by nature and wild things. I strongly feel the nature of my island is in me and the sea I grew up with is always, somentimes even unconciously, represented in my pieces. I graduated in Architecture in Rome, I moved then to New York for pursuing my second master degree and I still live and work in the City. My passion for ceramic came early on, growing fast and exponentially. I am a self-taught sculptor and by far my favorite narrative tool is porcelain. Besides other things, I am a sci-fi geek and through my pieces, I talk about meandering cities and tortuous architectures, about heritage and ancestral stories, entropy and chaos, life and death in this and other planets. I live on and off in the Hamptons and I am represented by IlleArts gallery in Amagansett, NY.

“The porcelain sculptures are anthropomorphic

and otherworldly at the same time”.

Porcelain sculptures

The main shape was built using a coiling method. Subsequently decoration was added with carving and modeling the surface After being bisque the piece was dipped in NaCO3 then dried for several hours consequently glazed with shino glazing transparent glazing and fired twice in a gas Kiln.

Into the gas Kiln, shino, salt and NaCO3 worked together for creating the uneven coloration and texture that strongly characterizes this sculpure.

A subtle symbolism lies on the surface of this autobiographical piece that talks about the feeling of belonging. Heritage is represented through female appearance; on her womb the chamber of emotional experiences lays the core of the sculpture.

Her features are underlined by the contrast between the white glaze and shino that creates a darker uneven surface

This chromatic contrast aims to enhance the feature’s expression.

Made of white porcelain n550 chosen for its unique shiny white characteristic.

The dimension of this sculpture is 38 cm tall and a circumference base of 20 cm

The collection

The porcelain sculptures are anthropomorphic and otherworldly at the same time. For simulating such transformation I use materials that unpredictably responds to the fire imprinting in my pieces a unique story.

Being With No End

Hydro-Resin, H 88cm. 2018

“I have found that teaching offers the kind of lifestyle that allows the time needed in the studio to create work. So when I got the offer of a free studio space and two teaching days back at FAA, I decided it was a good opportunity to make a fresh body of personal work”.
