This portrait was a commissioned piece that took quite some time to get right. The collector had an idea in mind of a particular look and so we went back and forth to the drawing board in order to nail down what he was after. As the painting progressed he began to see that the portrait reminded him of a familiar song and so we landed on the title of Shangri-La. People are often attracted to a piece more when it brings back an old memory or describes something they are familiar with and it just so happened that this portrait began to do this for the client; like an unveiling of sorts.
